The first real laser was created in 1960 by Dr. T.H. Maiman. His LASER stood for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (L.A.S.E.R.).

Notice that the Stimulated Emission of Radiation comes from the work of Einstein. You can see the first lasers were much smaller then the maser (Microwave Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiatio), but they would get very hot, so they had to be cooled by air,& would only operate in pulse mode, where the laser was primed by a flashing light. The laser it self was pretty simple, which surprised many people. Here is a simple first laser diagram:

The Flash Tube is just like a flash on a photo camera, its job is to inject the photons in to the ruby. The ruby it self its the container of the atoms. The ruby was polished and was coated with silver, with the emitter end of the ruby a little thinner, so some light could escape out. The Quartz tube had the job of reflecting the photons to maximize the number of photons staying in the ruby. The trigger electrode is what raised the ruby to a higher potential.

All lasers work on this same basic principle where there is gas or solid that is excited & then lased with a photon and light is emitted. This light is highly organized and highly symmetric.

THEL (Tactical High Energy Laser) . For years, chemical-powered lasers were seen as the only viable alternative for weapons-strength laser-ray guns. The most promising of those systems, the Tactical High Energy Laser, successfully shot down dozens of rockets & mortars. (this video shows it in action.) But generating the MTHEL’s megawatts of laser power required hundreds of gallons of toxic chemicals — ethylene, nitrogen trifluoride. The weapons grew bulky (the small-scale version was only supposed to be kept in a mere right cargo containers, each 40 feet long). Worse, after a few shots, the lasers would have to be resupplied with a fresh batch of reactants. The logistics of hauling those toxins either through the air or across a battlefield made generals shiver. Boeings Airborne Laser (ABL) will locate & track missiles in the boost phase of their flight, then accurately point & fire the high-energy laser, destroying enemy missiles near their launch areas. This is a demonstration of using the NFI RGB Laser Projector as a component to the manufacture of a Laser Lighting Display. Note the cleaner scabnning Outputs. The onboard ILDA compatible 25 pin port allows for software control. This video is of a NFI 360 mW RGB Laser with 360mW, 20K scanner ILDA port etc Beamshow. (ca o chestie, youtube are si subdomenii gen: uk.youtube.com, de.youtube.com sau jp.youtube.com … unde poate fi indexata si informatia de pe site-ul “mama”, adica iar un double-content …)
